Sustained Assault

Sustained Assault

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

a young soldier on the battle field

"

The young soldier tried to take cover,

he could barely force his legs

to move one in front of the other,

he was staggering,

almost fell on his back,

he had made plans before the attack,

but he had never felt so useless,

and it wasn’t his fault,

he had not expected such

a sustained assault,

he tried to remain calm and collective,

but the enemy he was facing

was greater than he expected,

his dreams busted like a bubble,

as the buildings around him

were in piles of burning rubble,

he closed his eyes and just saw red,

when he learned

that his men were all dead.

Another tale of sadness, war often kills more than it solves..must be a horrid feeling to find out something like this.
