Sad Stories Told

Sad Stories Told

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

after a fire..sad stories would be told

"

Sad stories are told,

but a reality could never unfold,

in the cold,

the spirit stands in water and ash,

and smells that unmistakable odor,

flesh swells,

as the firefighters pry rubble

off the bodies of small children,

it was almost like seeing double,

the children left behind when the fire broke out,

only their ghosts would shout,

all this when a space heater shorted,

small bodies contorted,

life distorted,

and the spirit would pray

as he floats away.

oh no...now I am sad before breakfast, the imagery is all too concise , poor little children is there anything sadder than a life taken in it's bloom? The emotional element runs strong in this and it hits it's mark. well done!
