Summer Heat

Summer Heat

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

a body found during the summer heat

"

Blinded by the summer heat,

life once again falls to defeat,

the spirit stands in a third floor

apartment with no windows

and a busted door,

dishes scattered all over the floor,

medical examiners’s attendants

move the bloated wreck

of an eighty-four year old retiree,

who had fallen and broken his neck,

he died next to the kitchen table,

and stayed there until neighbors

could no longer stand the smell,

he simmered in his own quiet hell,

and nothing was worse,

as the torso was ripe

and was getting ready to burst.

Sad to say, this happned here a few streets from mine, an elderly woman died and no one noticed til the smell was so bad...this happens more often than what we think. Sad tale of realtiy!
