A Horrific Case File

A Horrific Case File

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

A detective suffers mental issues after a murder

"

Nothing could drown out the screams,

a detective who handled perhaps

over a thousand crime scenes,

he dealt with thugs, and slime,

but he couldn’t find the reasons why he suffered

nightmares about a murder for the first time,

graphic images of helplessness

chewed at his mind,

in which the dead children

were at the top of a row-house stairway,

where they would play,

they were butchered and slaughtered,

their spirits were horrified,

terrified,

and all the while crying,

as they kept trying,

to even keep their sanity from flying,

oddly, it was the murderer who mustered empathy,

enough to prompt a full confession,

he was telling,

and his horrific story was compelling,

and then he tore apart an aluminum soda can,

he would stand,

his insanity made a demand,

after the confession

he made a fist,

and he tried to use the rough edge

against his wrist,

and the detective did nothing to stop him.

Tends to happen when around death long enough. A person starts asking themselves what could have they done differently to prevent the situation. After that though they just walk along a shadow path. The only thoughts that come to their heads, are thoughts of sweet revenge.
