Misdemeanor Homicide

Misdemeanor Homicide

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

when no one takes a homicide serious....

"

A drug killing with no witnesses,

no specific motive,

and no suspects,

a dead man with an empty face,

and no interest in the case,

it was just being swept away

with humanity’s ignorant broom,

as the body would stay

outside a freezer door

across from the autopsy room,

with the identification tag left on the floor,

cause of death, a brutal attack,

male, black,

address, not shown,

family, unknown,

the tag had nothing to hide,

and the case was treated like a misdemeanor homicide.

The pace was brilliant as were the words effective! Sometimes we don't need a thousand words to create the strongest impact we can, sometimes it only takes very few words indeed. Bravo!

well, a fellow civil rights activist! YES, you have top-notch rhythm, good music, good art but unassuming -- anybody can read it and sing similar praises. good job :)

Unless it's tagged, we don't know. You make this write possess a great deal of imagery, Frank! I understand your mystery novels. Very nice!

There is not enough time to investigate every crime. Sad but true that if a person is as they say, of no importance to society, their death is just treated like nothing more than garbage. If you don't make the news and nobody claims you, you are just left there until you are disposed of. Great write about the underside of this society.

to even spare a thought for these poor souls would be something. excellent piece, i like the way you convey your thoughts but that they hold truth- this is the case with most murders really and the last 5 lines made me sit up and think, this person isnt unknown to others why shud his murder be left unknown. well done.

This is poignant, seems a lot of cases are lost without interest! Heart aching!
