The Birds Filled The Sky

The Birds Filled The Sky

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

a homeless man

"

When he walked by,

the birds filled the sky,

homeless,

but no one cries,

he was a wiry man,

with intense blue eyes,

an expressionless mouth,

his brow was high,

his situation real

and his taut face seemed to reveal

the size and shape of every bone

beneath his thin skin,

the hunger had grown,

yet he stood tall and straight,

he walked with a proud man’s gait,

it was his fate,

and help came a little too late.

Five years ago I learned how thin the line is between having a home and being homeless. These days, I give hand-ups whenever I can, and I definitely have no problem buying a fellow human being a meal when I can afford it.

Good write, my friend.
