Tragic Indeed...

Tragic Indeed...

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

Orphans live in a tragic situation here in this poem

"

Too many mouths to feed,

tragic indeed,

a whimpering noise arose,

from the crowds of hungry children,

orphaned,

in seconds time froze,

only briefly,

as a child with hunger in his eyes,

walked over eagerly,

on his small portion of food were flies,

by the hundreds,

so the old woman closed her eyes as she could feel the cries,

he gobbled the rancid meat,

smiled and took his seat,

then the old woman watched horrified,

she felt terrified,

the hungry boy was gripped by convulsions,

he shuddered, coughed and gagged,

then fell off the chair,

face riddled with fear,

as he fell on his back,

she looked into his haunting eyes and knew death would attack,

but she realized it had to be done,

a future for the child would be none,

some of the children watched as they stood in line,

others took off and are on the run,

in her mind she heard the cries of distress,

too many mouths to feed,

she could never rest,

cannot fulfill all their needs,

tragic indeed...
