Life Dims

Life Dims

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

homeless man waiting for death

"

He was a shadow of a man,

gaunt and undernourished,

no money, no demands,

hunger is all he commands,

his skin barely filling out his bones,

nothing he owns,

missing teeth makes his words more garbled,

eyes shining like marbles,

his family would scarcely recognize him,

as he took a sad moment to reflect,

nothing to detect,

as he palmed his rumpled hair,

as death came near,

homeless, and no one cares,

distraught, and filled with despair,

as he walks broken into the night,

life dims,

as he prays for the light.

As I read this a wave of sadness came over me. My heart goes out to those who lost their way in society's rules. Many of their stories are harrowing and some are probably lost in war's nightmares-they die alone with no one to hold their hand and their only hope is that in death they will receive a better lot then they did in life.

A heartrending piece- An excellent work...

You really brought a deep emotion across here. I enjoyed this. It's short, simple and the flow is perfect. One thing though, on the line "missing teeth makes his words more garble", I think you meant garbled. Besides that little bit, great write!
