Drowning Was No MistakeA Poem by Frank F. AtanacioWhat happens when a dare comes out so wrong?
The teenager sensed a flare of hope as she tried to cope, for a moment it overcame the fear that had been a constant, as she remembered how she took that dare, and fell into the lake, drowning was no mistake, she prayed for a savior, for Heaven’s sake, but none came, sadly, crying shame, however, there was no hint of denial, or anger towards God, as she sunk deeper almost a mile, the water forced its way down her lungs, the fear flooded back, smothering her and turning it into despair, the water continued its attack, and that was an assault she couldn’t hear, closing her eyes, she knew life and death had similar ties, she was silent for several seconds, despite the battle raging within her between life and death, then the glimmer grew dimmer, and the light became the night, lonely wet sighs, and then the teenager dies. © 2009 Frank F.
