Humanity Worn Away

Humanity Worn Away

A Poem by Frank F. Atanacio
"

End of Days

"

Please cease fire! For God’s sake,

can’t you see there are lives at stake?

A flash of light

brightens the night,

there was silence in the air,

and no time to fear,

the bombs drew closer,

the innocent watches,

eyes shaded,

lives faded,

scarred rubble,

everything gray,

humanity worn away.

it's not only having eyes to see, it's having the stench of it in your nose and the weight of it in your heart...

Very poignant, good short poem that holds a lot of punch. Nice style!

Short and very powerful. I was just reading the news about the Gaza bombing a couple hours ago so that was the first thing I thought of, first line. A wonderful poem if not a little depressing.
