JanuaryA Poem by Andrew GleesonMy first submission here was also the first thing I wrote this year. It's a few months old now, but I figured it was fitting.
January pens a new page for me;
back to the mirror, to the infinite sea. As the land disappears, I find my feet wet. The sea boards my ship, the "As Good As It Gets". I'll drown or I'll make it alive. This is my coin, these are her sides: I'll drown or I'll make it alive. January pens a new page for me; a brand new telling of the oldest story. I'm just a sad sailor sinking in my ship. The sea is so cruel; she does as she sees fit. I'll drown or I'll make it alive. This is my coin, these are her sides: I'll drown or I'll make it alive. January burns an old page for me; the life I once loved has been claimed by the sea. I'll captain my shipwreck. I'll steer this dead wood. Sailing toward my future on a plank, as I should. I'll drown or I'll make it alive. This is my coin, these are her sides: I'll drown or I'll make it alive. © 2011 Andrew GleesonAuthor's Note
