The Music of the Fey

The Music of the Fey

A Poem by Astro Annie
"

I really have heard the music of the fey and it is not something I can live comfortably with. It doesn't inspire me to create music, it is just there being beautiful and distracting. I don't hear it now.

"

I hear music in the silence

I hear music in the noise

The music of the ether

The music of the Fey

It sounds like nothing

It sounds like everything

Someone tuning a radio

Someone tuning a fiddle

Switching between songs

Switching between stations

Too quick to really listen

Too quick to really hear

Just when I think I understand

Just when I think I recognize

It changes again

It changes again

I take pills to make it better

I take pills to make it stop

I hear nothing in the silence

I hear nothing in the noise

I took anti-depressants until I realized that there would always be days just before the weather changed when nothing would help. I realized that it wasn't something I could ever explain to medical professionals. So I closed off that road and began a new adventure with different music.

I'm glad Kortas sent this my way, I enjoyed reading it.

In the early days of radio, it was sometimes referred to as "the ether', which gave those references more impact in my view. Mindful a bit of the old Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb"--"When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse/Out of the corner of my eye"--in the notion of seeing/hearing vague snatches of something, but not being able to connect to the whole; it is, in a sense, the downside of epiphany. Deceptively simple writing--it's very clean, but it's weightier than it appears on the surface.
