Gave All I Could, With Nothing in Return

Gave All I Could, With Nothing in Return

A Poem by Celestine Astraea Firestorm

My heart sits in pieces at your feet
Your blood-soaked hands poised palm up on your knees
As your shoulders form into a shrug
Telling me, repeatedly, that I'm not the cause of your misery
But never showing it

...."i don't know"....

...."it's not you, it's me"....

A straight answer might do the trick What am I to do?
I have no control

So I packed my bags, and headed for the door
Tears smearing my mascara
I asked you one question before I shut the door

....do you still love me?....

a humble "yes" emerged onto your dry lips
as a distraught "why" appeared on mine
