It's Over Now

It's Over Now

A Poem by AssonanceWriter

Remember when we played with wooden swords
Remember when we played cops and robbers
Ship across the ocean- Ship across the sea
Wind come- Wind Blows
Everyone was intimate
No one was an opponent

Remember when we played red light- green light
Remember when we played with board games
Duck Duck Goose
Ring around a Rosie
Everyone was intimate
No one was an opponent

What happened- to light up plastic swords
Play pretend showdowns
The loud cheering circle
The unbreakable association
The promises that everybody waited for

Wooden swords converted into Silver blades
Cops and Robbers become a reality
Ship across the ocean is no longer a game
Everyone became the enemy
No one stayed an Ally

The monopoly board becomes actuality
You move three spaces but -get forced to take three steps back
Move- but you are affixed to remain
You realize that this is the brutal truth

The loud cheering circle converts to a misconception
The cheers become jeer battle cries

Yesterday- we were still young- just children
Today- we are adults- adolescent

Remember when we played with wooden swords
Wooden swords converted into silver blades
Remember when we played cops and robbers
Cops and robbers became a reality
Everyone was intimate
The promises that everybody waited for
Everyone became the enemy

Wake up
Yesterday- we were still young- just children
Today- we are adults- adolescent
It’s over now
