The BearA Story by AskTheStreamer88A fictional account with ferocious wildlife. We were walking around a large field encircled by a thick forest comprised mainly of berry bushes and coniferous trees. On the field, the sun shone a tinted yellow, illuminating the bright flowers and lush green grass. My step sister frolicked about in the beautiful meadow periodically leaning down, picking flowers and breathing in long soothing draws of floral fragrance, but, something wasn’t quite right, like a glitch in the binary code from the matrix. Her eyes looked gaunt and empty, as though a deity had descended from their respective dimension and lifted the soul softly from her body. Perhaps 35 meters away, a small wood cabin sitting just inside the circular landscape of grass, dandelions, lilies, and white clovers resided. It’s entrance facilitated by a large dark stained fir door with a fractal pattern engraving and a copper thumb-push door handle. The euphoric-like grass patch environment seemed to be fronting for an uneasy feeling of danger. Like the onset of anxiety that can only be understood at the gut level, inexplicable to the living conscience. I could feel my fear gurgling silently within my stomach like a pot of water- static in the phase prior to boiling. I hadn’t seen beyond our meadow, and subsequently hadn’t delved into the forest’s interior, this uncertainty was lingering within me. A deep fear of mine is wild life protecting their young, and hunting for them. I knew that there was beings in that forest; beings capable of destruction particularly torn flesh and splintered bones. Constantly doing 360 degree checks, looking out for potential threats that seem to be upon us. My sister was completely oblivious to any danger or much less my concerns. Then I saw it. 100 meters away was a savage bear just inside the woods, looking as though it had been mutated for ferocity. It’s teeth hung down bellow its jaw like razor sharp stalagmites, with thick foul saliva dripping from them onto the forest floor. My eyes met the red ones of the great beast’s; at that very moment I realized his intent was to mercilessly shred me to pieces and have me for dinner, along with my sister. “Lily we have to run like hell to the house!!!!” I advised with anxious haste. “One sec I’m not done yet” she tells me blindly, picking flowers and placing them into a weaved basket. “There is no f*****g time for that!” I shouted, pulling on her arm. “There is a goddamn bear running full tilt towards us with every intention to tear us into pulled pork!” “Okay…” She sighs with reluctant compliance as she rises slowly off her knees. I ran with every bit of strength I had, adrenalin coursing through my blood, while lily lagged behind me running at a leisurely pace dropping flowers of all assortments carelessly. I reached the stained wood door and opened it. The beast on Lily’s heals, however, she still was yards away from me and the cabin. I couldn’t leave her to get utterly dismantled by the black monster. Finally, she strolled in with blissful ignorance with a snarling, heaving, growling black bear is bounding towards her. I slam the door shut and dash backwards away from the door, but the bear barged straight through; the door, posing little resistance to his might. I made a B-Line for the kitchen and haphazardly jumbled the utensils around in the knife drawer, drawing out a long wooden handled blade for cutting vegetables. The bear busted into the kitchen and faced me head on. He sprang at me with a rattling roar and took a swipe at my face, but, I veered left and avoided the blow. With precise agility, I ducked under his legs, emerging on his backside knife in hand. Atop the amazing ferocious beast’s back I jumped! He roared with furious dismay and struggled hard to shake me off but I had his thick fur clutched between my fingers. I raised the blade high above my head and jabbing it into his back with all of the force I could muster. Hard, and with great velocity I continued to repetitively sink the blade into his back while he shrieked and groaned with intense agony. With a massive thud he collapsed busting floorboards beneath him. I stood over the barbaric monster’s carcass, my clothing blood stained, and beads of blood sliding off the knife which I had defeated him with. Did I conquer my fear? Or was it just a meaningless dream….
