Acid Colored Butterfly Wings.A Poem by Karina AndersonIt kind of.. Came to me?Envision a teensy caterpillar, inching along tree bark. Cocooning; every prickly movement it makes. Seething itself in safety, wrapping up into the dark. Away from the surrounding world, before its shell breaks. - Seasonal shift, leaving leaves, whisking winds. Fragile bundle dives into critical condition, derived of its mold. Emerging at a slowed pace, different from all the trends. Swooping wings bursting onto the scene, ideal, bold. - Flapping delicately till’ courage builds inside its veins. With sweeping movements it launches off into the air. At liberty and ready for risks, butterfly begins its next change. In the atmosphere though, a storm brews; the butterfly unaware. - Conditions simulate war, tremendous and frightening. Sounds, cacophonous and harsh to the ear. Streaks of bleeding blue and white, frisky, tearing lightening. Chemically potent rain gropes its wing, sickening tear. - Ripped of its beauty, eternally marked and scarred. Limping though its days, the butterfly grows somber. Lift off seems almost impossible " all hope charred. May as well be damned to land, to unfruitful opportunity forever. - Till’ a spark is ignited, a fire with in is started. Surviving becomes the butterfly’s purpose, a healing process. One last morph, a slight flicker that cannot be seen, deep hearted. It fly’s once more, with acid colored wings, to lift it. © 2011 Karina AndersonFeatured ReviewReviews
