ChosenA Chapter by AsilemSummary: A few years after the whole Edward/Bella fiasco, down in the
southern part of the United States, vampire wars rage on. In the heat of it
all, Lucas Jennings, third in command under Maria, gets word that some crazy
vampire had fathered a child. Curious, he concieves an "experiment"
to try to father his own child with a human woman. Thats when he meets Amy
Wolfe, and instinct tells him that she's the one.
"I told you guys were having too many drinks," I said as I drove down the dark winding road.
I heard someone suck on their teeth from the back. "Don't be so.... prissy, Amy," Julia said.
Glancing at them in the rearview mirror, I pursed my lips and shook my head.
"Oh! Oh! Look! Looooooook!" Emma squealed, pressing her finger against the passenger window.
"Whuuuut?!" My friends said almost in unison. They leaned over each other, looking out the window to see what Emma was pointing at.
Emma burst out giggling. "It's the mooooooooon!" she said. "You know, like the cow jumped over the moon! Mooo! Mooo!"
Then they started laughing. Julia's hand was on my shoulder, pulling me toward her so that she made sure that I had seen the moon.
My eyes left the road for a just a second, taking in the clear dark sky and bright, white moon. When I looked back up, the road wasn't where I had left it. It took me a moment to realize that we were barreling through the woods. My foot slammed down on the break, but the car wouldn't stop. I had just enough time to scream before there was a loud, metallic crushing sound at the same time that the windshield shattered. I was jolted forward in my seat as the airbag blew up in my face.
That's when the screaming started. My friends apparently had finally realized what had happened and started freaking out. I sat back in my seat, my eyes focusing on the dark red smear across the stark white airbag. Blood. Raising my hand to touch my lip, I felt the sting. Damn.
I tried to think clearly, but my head was throbbing and the screaming and crying wasn't helping much.
"Will you guys shut up?!" I said loudly, craning my neck to look at them. Julia and McSarah were holding each other, mascara running down their cheeks because of their tears. Cassie sat shrieking and pointing to the front seat.
"What's wrong?!" I yelled.
"Emma!" came her reply.
My eyes found Emma, or part of her. When the car collided with the tree she must have shot forward through the window. All I could see were her legs. They were still.
I took deep breaths, trying my best not to panic. I twisted back around.
"Hey! Stop screamin' and hollerin'! It ain't gonna do you any good."
With effort, I'm sure, they quieted down.
"Good," I smiled shakily. "That's better. Is everyone okay? Besides ... Emma."
"I-I-sssshhee dead?" McSarah whispered.
I took a deep breath. "Hopefully not. Just knocked out."
"B-buutt shee flooo throoo the winndsheeeld, a-and look at yooor lip. It's bleedin'."
"I know," I said. "I'll be okay. Loosin' a little blood won't hurt me. Julia, can I see your phone?"
Her hands shook as she reached into her bag and pulled it out.
"S**t. No service," I muttered after the screen lit up.
I sighed in frustration, pressing my back into my seat. What were we gonna do?
At that moment, a loud thump came from above, shaking the car. We all screamed. I looked up as whatever was on top of us jumped over the broken windshield to land on the hood next to Emma. From what little light the moon provided, I could see that this figure was a person, crouched low, it's head cocked to the side as if he were studying us.
With another loud, but more ear-piercing screech, something else tore the roof clear off the car. The moonlight basked the interior of the car and I was able to see with more clarity.
The man on the hood had jet black hair with classic Roman features. His nose looked like it had been broken quite a few times, giving him a ruggedly handsome look. He had strikingly pale skin, and under the moonlight it looked snow white.
One thing that really caught my attention were his eyes. Framed by thick dark lashes, they shone a bright crimson red.
My own eyes widened and my heart skipped faster in fear. I sat ramrod still as the guy's eyes roamed over my friends until finally they came to rest.
Finding my voice, I said, "What do you want?"
He chuckled. "You, of course."
"What-?" My car door flew open, and the next thing I knew, I was being pulled from the car. My mind raced. How did they get me out so fast?
The guy slammed the door shut, and leaned closer until I had no choice but to press my back against the cool metal. He planted his hands on either side of me, caging me in.
I took in his facial features as we stared at each other. His hair was dark. His cheekbones stood out, broad. His eyes were like the other guy's in color. Crimson red.
Unable to bare the unusual creepiness of it, my eyes slid somewhere else. They got stuck on his mouth. Despite my boiling terror, and his creepy eyes, I actually found him attractive.
He noticed where I was staring, and his beautiful mouth curved into a smile as he chuckled. The sound rumbled deep in his chest. I could practically feel it because he was pressed so close to me.
"Like what you see, pretty girl?" he asked, and suddenly those lips came closer and closer until they were gently touching mine.
I expected them to be warm, his lips, but they weren't. They were freezing cold. As was the rest of his face where it met mine. It made no sense.
Terrified screams and begs dragged me out of my haze. Crap! What were they doing to my friends?
Tearing his mouth from mine, I pushed him away, whirling around to see the source of the screams. Emma had the black haired guy on top of her. It looked as though he was kissing her neck, but I had a gut feeling that wasn't what he was doing.
I heard more screams as I saw Julia, McSarah, and Cassie being dragged from the car through the window. The men doing the dragging had the same red eyes as the other two. Who were these guys? What were they?
"Hey! Leave em---!" I started to say as I attempted to go to them. My efforts were stopped by two iron strong arms encircled around my waist. They hauled me against a body that felt like stone, cold and hard. Their fingers threaded through my hair, tilting my head to the side. Ice cold lips rubbed along the skin of my neck. Their teeth nipped and nibbled my skin. I struggled to keep my wits as he started trailing feather light kisses down to my rapidly beating pulse. He licked it, and I heard him growl. And inhuman, animal like growl. It scared me. My nails dug into the cold arm holding me. His grip on me tightened, and he crushed his lips to mine, kissing me so hard it was painful. His tongue ran along the cut in my lip. Almost immediately, he started sucking, but then he stopped faster than I could blink. He went back to my neck, resuming what he was doing before.
I tried elbowing him, but that only led to pain... for me. I whimpered desperately, and attempted kicking his instep. He didn't even flinch. He was like a moving statue.
Frantically, my hand went up and locked in the thick locks of his hair. I pulled as hard as I could. He growled again, his cold hand skimming up my arm to grasp my hand. I released his hair as he moved my arm back down to rest at my side. His arm snaked around my waist.
Finally, he lifted his head from my neck. I stared, wide-eyed at him. His eyes were hard, but they softened as he stared back.
"Why does your heart get faster every time I growl?" he asked gently.
"Because I think you're fed up with me so you're gonna bite my head off."
He chuckled, ducking his head to press his lips once again to my throat. "Your head... not so much. But your neck... definitely."
"Hey! Lucas, are you done messing with the girl?" I heard someone say. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the dark haired one with the broken nose that had jumped onto the hood of the car earlier. He had blood smeared around his mouth. I did my best ignore it.
"Not yet," the guy holding me captive whispered.
"Hurry up and kill her. John's waiting."
Lucas raised his hand and told him what he thought of that idea with his middle finger. His mouth was still touching my neck, so I could feel his lips curve into a smirk.
"Very mature, Lucas," another guy joined in. He stood next to the dark haired one.
He was big and beefy with a thick southern drawl.
"This is the one," Lucas said, he moved his head against mine, his cheek against my temple. The hand in my hair released its hold and he grabbed my jaw, holding me still. He moved me so that I faced the others.
I saw their reactions. The dark haired one with the broken nose raised his eyebrow as his red eyes appraised me. I tried not to squirm under his scrutiny. The southern accented one wrinkled his nose and made a sound of disgust.
"Problem, Grady?" Lucas asked.
"Her? She's so ugly and fat."
I felt heat rise to my cheeks. In my defense, I replied, "No, I'm not. I'm just easy to see."
The three of them froze for a moment. Then the dark haired one and Lucas laughed. Grady scowled and glared at me.
"She's perfect," Lucas said. Though I could hear the smile in his voice, his tone implied that he was serious. "Plus size is how I like my women." He ran an appreciative hand over my abdomen and hip. "As for her face... It's true she's no beauty. But I'm pretty enough for the both of us." That got a few snorts. "I like em healthy and real. Not bottle blond and anorexic like you seem to prefer, Grady."
Grady snarled and balled his hands. He looked as if he were ready to fight. Lucas raised himself to his full height behind me. The two had a little staring contest. The tension between them was thick in the air.
Grady was the one to back down. He turned his back to us, shaking his head.
"Whatever. Do what you want."
The dark haired one with the broken nose came closer as Grady walked away.
"Is everyone ready?" Lucas asked.
"Yes, we're ready to go." Then his eyes shifted to me and he smiled. "Looks like you're going to be with us for a while. My name is Cameron. What's yours'?"
I stayed silent. The blood on his face was making it hard to concentrate.
"Wipe your mouth, Cameron," Lucas demanded. As if he knew what I was thinking.
Cameron raised his hand to his mouth. "Oh, excuse me." He wiped it with his fingers and then cleaned his finger in his mouth.
I could only stare, horrified and disgusted at the scene. Cameron smiled. "Well? What's your name?"
I didn't answer. Lucas' lips hovered over my ear. "What's your name, sweetheart?" he whispered.
If I thought I could get away with it, I would have told him exactly how sweet my heart was, but I didn't.
"...Amy Wolfe."
Cameron's smile broadened as he grasped my hand and raised it to his lips. "Such a lovely name. It's a pleasure to meet you."
I didn't have the chance to reply because Lucas' long fingers encircled around my wrist and he pulled my hand back.
"She's mine, Cameron. Am I clear?"
"Crystal."
"Good. So keep your hands off her from now on."
"Jealous much?" Cameron said, but didn't press the issue further. © 2013 AsilemFeatured Review
