fathers of daughtersA Poem by Itumeleng Molokommetribute to all fathers that a playing their part. thank you
Fathers of daughters.
Daddy! I bet your heart melts whenever you hear this name Today I write strictly for you You who held her from the moment she was born Who was there when she took her first steps to catch her fall You who bragged to whoever when her first words were dada And especially you who did it alone When she skid her knee Or was stung by a bee You coccooned her in your arms And said I'm sorry, never again on my watch The pink helmet you placed on her head And pushed her down the street till she was ready to ride on her own And still you ran behind her to catch her when she falls When puberty hit I salute you for not flaking still For proudly picking up that box of tampons Daddy! It still sounds so sweet Even when she's grown Oh! I bet it does How does a father play a mother's role? And raise a girl to be a woman? It doesn't come naturally I know But I appreciate the effort you put in You may fail at times but remember Its all trail and error at most And when you walk her down that aisle at the end She will be thankful that you did the best you can. © 2014 Itumeleng Molokomme |
