Substance

Substance

A Poem by Itumeleng Molokomme

Substance

Look at me, look straight into my eyes
And see the substance that resides
Fall not for my face
Or the curves leading from my waist
Those things won't last
Those things will fade
And so will your love if they the reason you stayed
When you take my hand
Please note, it is my spirit with which you promise to stand

Women of substance where are you?
The earth is hungry and in need of you
To birth and nurture as you were meant to do
Feminism has left you dazed
Woman you have forgotten your rightful place
Seeing your duty as an insult
Has only turned you into something feared as a result
Woman you have lost your essence
Leaving men to do your tasks in your absence
Women of substance where are you?

I look into your eyes
Searching for the inner you that wears no disguise
I yearn to find your soul
And fall for the you that will play the leading role
For your swagger won't feed our children
And your mask will eventually get ridden

Men of substance where are you?
The earth that birthed you needs you
Mouths chipped and dry need to be fed
But most of you have fled
Men you have forgotten your role in this play
You were not meant to hurt or betray
But to protect and defend
To support and mend
Mend the broken hearts of your women
Men of substance where are you?

You have both lost your way
Like a dog without a master, gone astray
You know only to unlock the social media to Facebook
And forgot the way to the library to open a real book
Your conversations like a falling leaf has no weight
Your intellect butcher by the knife in your own hand
We are killing ourselves

Wrote in depth here :) I love that in a person. The world is like a chaotic disease falling in the hands of the unknown, people have forgotten the true ways:( you write is a reminder to not to forget. I ask why to a few things myself at night when I pray. I ask why a woman wish to run to a man that abuse her??? I never got that one in life.

Very modern, mention of Facebook, but yet the message is "old school". I love the line "Your conversations like a falling leaf has no weight" If we all strove for substance and meaning our social media conversations would be a lot different. Thank you for the inspiring thought.
