Jozi

A Poem by Itumeleng Molokomme
"

Every city is like a coin. Two sided. beautiful and ugly. I appreciate both sides equally. Johannesburg is one of South Africa's major cities and I try to capture it with a few words

"
I'm inspired by the rush hour traffic
Doesn't it make you feel like a part of something
The thousand cars moving up and down the streets of Joburg
Like the blood flowing in me; up and down my arteries and veins
The people in the streets working together
Like the tiny cells working in me

I'm excited by the vibrant cultures
Like me they are unique, extraordinary and beautiful
They fill the atmosphere with serine and tranquil melodies
Melodies of birds mixed with hoots and whistles
The clicks and clacks of tongues
The sounds of heels patting the gentle grounds
And the palpating hearts

I'm disgusted by the dirty smelly streets
But they remind me of my flaws and impurities
For like this haven I've been trumped upon and left solitary to rebuild
Like me it is the offspring of abundance and negligence
It is the mirror reflection of my sorrow and misery

It's imperfections make it perfect in its own right
It's vast number of characteristics makes it effervescent
And it's stature assures me that it's meant for me
