MotherA Poem by Itumeleng MolokommeI wrote this just yesterday for mother's day. it celebrates the people that birthed the universeYour beauty is striking From your hair follicles down to your toe nails So marvelous I know not where to begin Should I tell you of your eyes How they've seen tragedy but still remain so bright Or how the wrinkles that surround them remind me of ocean waves gently soaking the shoreline I'd rather tell you about the ones on your mouth Those that define your angelic smile, your laughter that echoes through my veins Your body embodies everything majestic Serenity resides in your soul In your womb you carry love and hope Your shoulders remind me of weighing scales. You carry the burdens of the world but never break You bring about balance and justice You are the mother of generations Past, present and still to come © 2014 Itumeleng Molokomme |
