Almost Love

Almost Love

A Poem by Ashlynn Guillot

Almost love is something complicated
Not simple, not comfortable
Almost love is a distant memory when you hear that song
When you remember their lips and the taste of cigarettes on their tongue
Looking into their eyes, wondering if this is forever
Wondering if this is all there is
Almost love is wincing when they say the words
You aren't sure you feel the same, but you want to
So you let them hold you at 2 AM
And you let them feel the bones beneath your skin
And you let them fall in love with you
And you hope it's enough to make you fall in love with them
But you can't, you just can't
So you cry when you realize what you've done
"I'm so sorry," you whisper
"Me too," they say
