the more u want the more u work

the more u want the more u work

A Poem by Ashly Christen
"

time to write

"

the higher you want your rank to be the more you must write

I tell myself time and time again it is time to write

I feel the tingle

I need the fix

of letting the words inside spill from my lips

they are coming

each day the are rising

they begin to bubble at the surface

maybe I should start journaling on here to keep my mind rolling

I stopped journaling and writing for about a year

I found it hard to focus in the midst of the distractions that are near

I felt as if I was being crushed

I felt like my talent didn't matter

I didn't think anyone wanted to hear

I figured that if the world were to end this year it wouldn't even matter what I wrote

day to day I felt smothered and put out

uninspired and unfelt

inside I began to grow numb so I wouldn't feel the pull

but its hard to resist what is a part of you

so help me find my place again

its just like going for a swim.....isn't it

I relate to this poem. I am certain any artist would. As artists we tap the results of our experience. Our art is the expression of that. It isn't good to be numb inside but it does happen. That part doesn't kill us but it hurts us the way necrotic flesh hurts our organism.

It is a very good poem.

I am glad for this confession from you. Like a confession to a room full of addicts it acts to lead you back to the light. Stay with us sister. :-)

A very good reflection about the obsessive nature of the creating process... I enjoyed reading it, thanks for sharing !

It is really hard to be in that position. Sometimes the words just don't show up for you and you start pressing to write something new. On the other hand, there are the times when you feel as if you will never write again or never can write again.

In the end, I think writing is something we are bound to in a way. At least for me, I know I need it to exist. If I don't write for a long time, I get really frustrated and my mind gets really cluttered.

I'm glad the world didn't end. Poetry time!

thank you :D
It is the human condition to seek acceptance in the activities that mean the most to you or that you are the most passionate about. I know people often say "Do it for the love" and though this is good advice, it doesn't inspire us to stretch our hands as far as we can. Writing is perhaps one of the most challenging activities because it falls to others to decide if we are validated in our efforts. I can tell that you are genuine in your desire to be considered a great writer, but remember great writing comes from practice and experiences in the human condition. Those who have suffered through a lot of personal issues will probably write better about pain, than someone who has never had too many disappointments. I too have wondered if my writing was deemed by my peers to be good, because I put so much of myself into it. And in getting good reviews, I feel inspired to continue. I encourage you to continue writing, and expanding your horizons. the more you experience in life the more effectively you can relate those experiences in the written word. Good Luck to you Ashly...By the way I like how you spell your name. Its creative. I feel you! Your voice is strong and real.

Wachagoomagobbitboodalaloo!! That was cool. : ) I'm not sure what the form, intention, or reason behind this is, but it is a close resemblance to the mental list my mind creates when I start to pull in ideas from strange sources when I feel that need to write ANYTHING!! I hope the girl you used for the picture, knows of this poem..... she's freakin' gorgeous. That's the second time I wrote that tonight. lol After reading this poem, I feel like propping a stool or setting a blanket "without the threat of 0 degree weather or snow!!" and writing something with you... or just reading something we've both written. This got my mind in a flip. : ) xoxo -Mark

I loved the free flow of your thoughts, Ashly... there are too often distractions that keep us from our passions... and how the words in the poet long to be released... to find a place to paint in the colors of emotion... Dear poet, your words do matter, and I'm so glad you've returned to us... Please stay and swim awhile...

thank you! *big hugs
Well, rank matters VERY VERY VERY little in the grand scheme of things and represents ZERO in the arena of talent in my not so humble opinion. I have seen "Top Ranked" writing that was full of misspellings, syntax errors, grammar issues and just AWFUL writing! But you have talent as a writer and you need to just loosen up a bit and let your feelings flow through your pen or keyboard as it were and don't worry about superfluous disingenuities such as "rank". Jump in! The water's fine.

I've always felt like laying downs one ink was the part of the soul that hits you in the back of the mind with some inner joke that no one knows about, and the ink is the laughter that you can hold back from releasing. :)
