Chapter oneA Chapter by Ashley ArmstrongThe first chapter of The Sworn Protector
My name is Willow. But most just call me The General or The Boss. You see, at the age of seventeen, I'm the head of the unstoppable Ravenfell army. There will be more on them later. For now, let me tell you about myself: at the age of seven, I was already thinking about my future. My mom suggested being an artist or a songwriter. But I didn't want a boring job. I wanted the most exciting job in the entire kingdom. I wanted to be the head of the military.
Dad had no problem with my dream and got me into training as soon as possible. That's how, at the age of eight, I became the youngest soldier- in- training ever to go to Ravenfell's military school. The training was the most work I had ever done. By the end of each day, I was so tired I could barely move. But I never complained. If I was going to be in charge one day, I had to go through whatever it took. At the age of eleven, I was the best in my class and ready to graduate. The day I received my diploma was one of the best days of my life. I was to start active military service in one month. on my birthday. I was so happy I could barely maintain my stoic expression. But my happiness was short lived. A week later my mom got sick. It was really bad and there was nothing Dad and I could do. She died two days before my birthday. She used her last breath to tell me to never give up on my dreams. The next day at her funeral, I swore that I would try my hardest and never quit trying until I achieved my dream. From that moment on, I tried my hardest. Every day I trained harder. I got faster, stronger, smarter. I knew Mom would be proud. Dad definitely was. But it was difficult. I barely had any friends and was always tired. Every day made me more tired, it seemed. But it was worth every second.By the time I was fifteen, I had fought many battles and proved myself worthy of being in charge. I had shown that I had enough strength and knowledge to go above and beyond the call of duty for my men. The King was the one who gave me my sword. It was the sword passed down through the years. Going from the old General to the new one. The sword that tells everyone who you are and what you stand for. The sword that had won, but also had lost, many battles and wars. The Sword of Generals. The day after I got my sword was my first days The General. At first, nobody believed that I could handle the job. " You're so young," they said " How could this little girl be in charge?" " I give her a week before she quits." " The King doesn't know what he's doing." " Yep, we're all going to die." A week later, I had shown them all. I worked them harder than they had ever worked before. They didn't doubt me after that. And over the next two years, I turned them into the best army around. We won nearly every battle we fought. We were an unstoppable force. Feared by all surrounding kingdoms. And those who didn't fear us soon changed their minds. Though there are still some who try to take us down. They know of our strength and want to test theirs'. Poor fools. Oh, yeah there's one thing I forgot to mention... © 2014 Ashley ArmstrongReviews
