Deliverance

Deliverance

A Poem by ashleydawn

Delivery day
Sliding the package off the dolly
Thanking the man,
paying reluctantly.
Finally here.
Sliding the blade on the crease
Slicing the tape
Slipping my fingers underneath
The excitement leaves me quickly
and is replaced by a chill
and such a strong piercing memory
that the sights and smells wrap themselves around me
Easily.
Such a  long way I have come
Since when cardboard
didn't deliver my appliances
but was my home.

I haven't written anything well in quite a while. I like the idea of this piece, and the end of it (where its bolded and underlined) , but its delivery is really weak and doesn't set up a story quite like I want it to. Any and all suggestions would be great.
