We Try Anyways

We Try Anyways

A Poem by ashleydawn

Have you ever experienced

the pointless act

of attempting to hide the fact

that you're crying?

The change of tone

inflected on your voice

and the gasping breaths for air

are always a dead give away.

She asked if you were okay

and stubborn, you replied a simple Yes.

Free from any signs of otherwise,

but she knew,

and asked again.

This time, without restraint

you admitted,

it had just been

a terrible day.

Aw, lovely piece of work, Ashley! very relatable - who hasn't been in this situation? How many times do we often "pretend" and put on the smiling face to appease the masses? Loved this! My only suggestion would be to put the word Yes in quotations and actually drop it down to the next line, at least that's what I wanted to do with it anyways, it felt like it needed the emphasis of dialogue.

Great work!
