The Big Girl TaskA Poem by ashleydawn
The cool metal bend
crashes together with your porcelain white teeth Roughly as you are still attempting to learn the ways Mashing soggy cereal between but a sandwich would have to wait until lunch The single light over the table reflects off the bright yellow bowl Illuminating your face My eye catches the crust in your left eye The tangled mane that covers your face keeps slipping into the milk Leaving remnants of a sticky mess for later Spending more time than I thought possible I wait patiently for you to finish Passing the time with a good read Then I hear your small voice announcing You're done and then you crawl sweetly into my lap To snuggle after completing your big girl task.
