Mixing the Colors

Mixing the Colors

A Poem by ashleydawn

I imagine You in the beginning
Sitting above the ocean
and next to the lands
Only created the day before
Seated at a smoothly carved table
with miscellaneous tools used to craft
Shining above is one dim light
(Before declaring light to be You had forgotten
to check all the wires
You had not signed up as an electrician
so this one would have to wait.)
Dipping fingers into the sea
and pulling up leaves from the ground
Borrowing some shine from a star occasionally
You began to mix and measure
Stir and grind and pour
Selecting concoctions that pleased You
To paint the sky and each fish that swam beneath You
Feathering each wing of each bird in the sky
and coating the land with rich earth tones
(only named so after your placement)
Impossible it is for a meager being to even attempt
such a feat as creating a new color
For You have done such a glorious job
at creating the unimaginable
to fill this world
With a different light
