Sunday School

Sunday School

A Poem by ashleydawn

Sunday school is good
for the days when parents need a break
and when siblings need to be separated
by thick walls and numerous volunteers
When we grow inside these classrooms
we leave with copious amounts of background information
The kind needed
for a Bible SAT
if t'were such a thing
Guided wit the knowledge of each play-dough color and taste
How to keep our drawings in the lines
and to refrain from digging in our noses
We have a well kept list
of famously-rehearsed stories
Complete with set designs and character roles
Within out brain for use whenever we please
What Sunday school doesn't foster
is brokenness
Lost hope and fear of the Almighty
Only once these things have been grasped
Can one truly believe
in Sunday school stories
with their heart
