The Log

The Log

A Poem by ashleydawn

Such an impeccable log you keep sir
You can pull from the records
Dates, Times, Names, and Places
of events
Times when you were hurt
Every tear has been measured and recorded on the chart
Every scream and shout
(from others not yourself)
documented slowly
over the years
But sir, pray
Have you noticed?
This log you keep
has begun to weigh down your pack
You stagger now
underneath this full load
Could you pause in your journey
Even for a moment
To release them?
Even just a few items
Maybe?
It would be so much easier on your sore back
Sir, if you could muster this feat
if your pack was completely
Empty.
