Completing the Duty

Completing the Duty

A Poem by ashleydawn

The brave soldier straps on his armor
Securing ties and supplies
Saluting to his Father
and kissing the tattered picture goodbye
He ventures to the edge and drops one foot over
Spending a fleeting moment to hover
Before grasping holds in pores
Sliding down the deep path
Made from many trips this way
Over and around the smooth contours
He ends secure at the bottom
And sends a call for more men to come
To take the plunge,
And fall fast down the slick surface
Following orders from above
