Waiting

Waiting

A Poem by ashleydawn

I've been waiting

Oh, for so very long

My stomach begins to ache with your memory

I stare at the phone

Just waiting for it to go off

Erupting with the shrillness that would offset the silence

I can't keep focused

I keep coming back

Just to see if I've missed you

Then I become angry with myself

Not wanting to be held captive like this

I try to break free

When I hear the phone ring

I ignore it

Tell myself you can wait because I sure as hell did

That lasts for mere seconds

Before I go crawling back

It wasn't you though

And so I go back to waiting
