What Should I Bring?

What Should I Bring?

A Poem by Ashley
"

What lies do you wish to hear this time round

"

What should I bring

Besides fake smiles

And a porcelain mask

My deepest fears?

My darkest secrets?

All the irrational thoughts

I’ve ever thought?

All the categories I fit myself into

Then doubt?

Because,

Am I really worthy

Of these labels

I desperately stick to myself

Is that really who I am?

Or am I stealing,

From the empty coffers of empathy

Left for those who really are

What I impersonate?

You say

Talk to me, tell me

But do you really want to hear

Why I decided my parents were dead

Because they were three hours late

Or how I’m know not good enough for my family

Because I overanalyzed off hand remarks

Because I can’t keep up

With what they want from me

So what should I bring to your place

When I visit you tomorrow

Fake smiles?

And a porcelain mask?

Or the confession

I’m sure you don’t want to hear

Beautiful poem! The last 6 lines could be a poem in their own right.
