When In Doubt...A Poem by Ashley AcriDoubt seems to be synonymous with both adolescence and young adulthood. I think that we oftentimes get so wrapped up in the surface value of this doubt that we never truly reach the root of it.
Doubt is not a four letter word...
Yet we avoid it far more than f**k and damn and s**t. Told always to "just grow up" and to "just get over yourself" We hide away behind smiles and positive affirmation. We fear the outside world when we are supposed to explore it And we fear our hearts when we must listen to its beat every day until we die. When we doubt ourselves we are called weak. When we doubt our future we are told to live in the now. When we doubt God or our professors or our friends we are told to have faith. Why do we diminish doubt? Why do we simplify? Why do we ignore? Why do we "treat" in the office of somebody with a title of "therapist"? When in doubt...what will we do? Stick out our pinky? Become paralyzed? Run? Hide? Cry? Shout? Doubt is not a four letter word. And this world should stop treating it like it is.
