What If...?

What If...?

A Poem by Ashira Macy
"

What if I can't?

"

What if… I am just not cut out to be

All those things that you expect of me?

What if… I fall into that endless abyss,

Or I jump in, unable to continue this?

What if… I already reached my forte,

Audience cleared out, nothing more to say?

What if… my candle burned down too fast,

Confident light fading into the past?

What if… I fail and let you down once more?

What could a disappointment like me be good for?

But what if the world fell at your feet, they bowed down at your splendour, and worshipped your magnificent glory? That would be a story to tell.

Those doubts and fears are with us all to some degree or another. Sometimes it's hard to battle through, and that last stanza in particular highlights the dilemma.

I can only say, that if someone thinks of another person as a disappointment, then they are not worthy of consideration.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement Beccy, I appreciate it. =)
self-deprication finds its way into our hearts and minds...and the ego finds itself deflating at an alarming rate.

You are so right, it can be pretty steep. Thank you Jacob.
Ah, what ifs. They are truly the bane of human existence. The lingering doubt in our minds of what could have been. Sometimes we get the chance to try that path again later in life, but often we even get the chance again.

It is okay to have these feelings and thoughts, but it is best to never dwell on them lest you hinder your own future and fill it to the brim with other what ifs. What ifs stem from regrets. Its best to live a life as free from regret as possible, thought it is an impossibly goal, it is a worthy one.

Thank you sharing this with me, and sorry it took so long. my computer decided to dl windows 8.1 and i couldn't even launch google chrome, let alone anything else. I ended up having to factory restart it, but its all good now.

my pleasure :)
This is pretty emotional and raw and I can see how it can strike a chord with everyone. It's sad, but it gets better in the end, I hope. Good job.

Thank you my friend, I appreciate it.
Fret not in hardship. Tough times don't last, tough people do. Whatever it is that has you doubting yourself, plow through it. Don't look to meet expectations of others unless they coincide with that of your own expectations of yourself.

Sorry for the winded review, this one hit home a little. Great read though :)

This is a well composed poem. The speaker conveys a feeling of loneliness, doubt, and loss.
