No One Ever Told YouA Poem by Ashes
As the collateral damage of someone else's war
You were to conditioned to hate yourself From the way you looked To who you were And everything in between. Your internal monologue Became one that screamed, "I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH", And, as time passed Parts of you started to die. No one ever told you The good things you needed to hear Because everyone thought you already knew The truth of your existence, That someone else had told you. No one ever told you That it was never supposed to be this way. Humans are hardwired to struggle, But the atrocities that happened Were never meant to be yours and are not your fault No one ever told you That you are not broken And you were never broken Because people aren't things to be fixed. They are beings that need to be loved as they are. No one ever told you That you deserve better and more than what you got. Life was quite cruel And I hate that for you And still, there is space for better to be found. No one ever told you That you are someone to be proud of, Not only for what you have done, Rather for who you are. Your personality gives hope and saves lives. Now I will tell you That it was never supposed to be this way That you are not broken That you deserve better and more than what you got And that you are someone to be proud of.
