Identity

Identity

A Poem by Ashes

Role 1

Hello, my name is child

I am feeble and weak

Exert your parental power

I will do nothing but obey

I will be the model

Of the perfection you seek

Yet it will never be enough

Watch and you will see

Role 2

Hello, my name is sibling

I will be by your side.

Parents yelling? Don’t you worry

I will take the fall

I am the protector

I will catch you, I will be here

Loud and proud,

But in the shadows

Role 3

Hello, my name is lover

My heart belongs to you

Don’t you worry, don’t you fret

There will never be another

Strike me

Violate me

Blame and accuse in any and all cases

I will still stay

Role 4

Hello, my name is friend

Loyal to my core

You are safe in my presence

Come as you are

I have advice to offer

If that is what you want and need

But should it be an ear you seek

The door is still wide open.

-----------------------------------------------

All these different roles

And many more you see.

Want to know the problem?

I don’t know who is really me.
