VENT POETRY

Keep everyone at an arm's length away

Don't tell them your secrets

And above all  be sure to follow the rules

1: Prepare with walls 

don't let anybody in 

Everybody hurts you at one point or another.

2: And don't you dare tear them down 

“You have yourself and that should be enough

Don’t be greedy 

Look at you

Asking for attention"                             

-From emotionally unavailable parents

3: Don't decorate these walls you’ve created with paint or roses, 

Shades of lilac and blue hydrangeas lining the walls 

Is not what you deserve

You are on punishment after all

So sit there with a book

Or pretend to do homework

With music

Blasting into your ears

Because that;

That is the closest you will get to home

4: Just be blank

Don't be fancy

Don't stick out

Just be blank

Be the blank space of the paper you doodled on during class

Be a freshly painted wall a sickening shade of white that glows like diamonds in the sunlight 

Be the blank page you stare at when you don't have motivation to write

Or the blank canvas you had ‘great’ plans for

Be blank

Be the girl that sits in the back of class, she has no friends because she isn't noticed

Be the girl that reads a book with headphones in during lunch

Be the girl who no one remembers the name of

Be the girl  that no one remembers

Be blank 

And once you do this and only this will you be safe others hurting you.
