Vampire

Vampire

A Poem by Joy Murphy

Embrace the night
Where old dreams
Take to flight.

Dreams in the mists
Now act as cysts,
Upon our burdened souls.

Souls that we seek to hide;
Hide from the world.
So no one may chide.

Once we were mortal
Now we seek a portal
To realms beyond.
Come along.

See as I see.
Shadows sweep at my feet,
Only to meet
The gaze of eyes unseen.

Do as I do
Walk into the night
Do not fight.

For soon blackness
Will encroach,
Overthrow and
Take hold on what
You fail to see.

See the humanity return,
As your soul now burns.
Burns, for what you left behind.

No longer me.
No longer you.

Tell me how does it feel?
To have your soul ripped
From you.
To feel the pressure of
Life and death leave.

Then you will see,
It is me.

50/50. Typical vampire type piece, but a good attempt though. Think about the story and dig deeper to make it stand out and take your reader by the throat with fangs glistening in that final moonlight that will be the last thing they see (so to speak). In other words, make it memoriable. Keep 'em coming.
