Overcounted

Overcounted

A Poem by Asenath

Sometimes I watch you sleep
I never thought perfection could be so real
I think of another lifetime
And fear this could be a dream
I get scared by the way you look at me
You hold me in such high regard
That every time I wake up to make a living
I want to make you proud
But do I though?
Will I ever?
I question every decision I make when it comes to you
I watch every step that you take with caution
I can't let you out of my cage
I don't want you exposed to how bad this world can be
But I can't keep you from it
You've got to learn
I try to envision the life my mother would have wanted for us
And I wonder if we'll ever get there
But I promise you
Every morning will be made of peace
And night with easy slumber
Love
I love you "overcounted"
