The NeighborhoodA Poem by adam26This one is still a work in progress. Kind of mashed up a couple different ideas I had and I'm working on integrating them better.Running through the yards The quickest way to meet We travelled like a herd Collecting more friends Annoying more mothers Yes, we will be safe Danny got hurt I didn’t do it The group is reduced They can’t play anymore Let’s find something else to do Endless ideas Life was a playground Fake guns never hurt anyone But being out of the game may have hurt just as bad We were undefeated against time The sun dips below the tree line One by one Everyone gets called home Running through the yards Our herd was disbanded by nightfall The only thing that could stop our youth Protected us from the real world I stand in these yards now Danny is a doctor now Most people are gone Others drifted away Rifts became personal The world slowed down And we did too But years blended together Faster than our relatives could remember Only the trees remained I sometimes wonder What walk of life are they on right now Do we ever look at the moon? Do we ever do it at the same time? Do we think of each other when we do it? Will anyone ever come back to the neighborhood Because I never left It’s my home © 2018 adam26 |
