Every Time
By: Asami Firestone
A young girl about the age of 12, about to turn 13, was gathering her black and blue swim suit, towel, goggles, and swim cap and putting them in her Florida Gators backpack. She was getting ready for swim practice like any other day. It is formalist day in the world that everything changes. She paused for a moment in her packing and looked out the window of her small bedroom in rainy Washington. "Every time." she muttered under breath. No, she was not irritated, she was disappointed, ever since her Mom, and two sisters had moved, all she could think about when she gazed out her window was her home, Florida. It was not just thinking though, it was a yearning. Try as she might, she could never bring herself to believe Washington as her home. It wasn't that the girl didn't like Washington, it was that it wasn't home . "If home is where the heart is, I guess I haven't found my home she thought, either that or my heart has been scattered amongst the worlds." the girl thought. She heaved herself of her bed. "Oh well." She said. And began to pack once more. The girl walked down the stairs of her home, and saw her mother holding an large white envelope that was ripped open on one end. And in her other hand was a red, thin, folder. She walked past her, and saw the neighbors cooking on the grill, and her younger sister talking to the father, and her older sister on her phone texting away to her friend, business as usual. The girl sat down on the couch and watched the actions of these people, they were all so human, so natural. She took turns with each person, watching them, and finally turned to her mother. The girl was surprised to se e that her mother was staring at the folder in utter amazement, and pure joy. The girl leaped to her feet and jogged over to her. She took a look in the folder and gazed down at the papers inside. They were from a school, the very school that the girl had applied to for a scholarship. She had gone to an interview for it three days ago. She began to read the first sentence: "We are pleased to inform you that..." The girl staggered backwards and exclaimed "YESSS!!!" She began to jump up and down. "I got it didn't I?! I got it right Mom?" "You got it!!! You got it!!" Her mother grabbed her and pulled her into an excited hug. "Congratulations!" Her mother continued to say things such as "I am so proud!" Eventually her older and younger sister continued in. But all the girl could think about was that she wanted to alert her Father, who was in Florida. Even in all that joy, that was the one thing she could think of. She said thanks to her family and reached for her phone, and began to dial the number she had called so many times, hoping for a change. True love really is unbreakable, isn't it? © 2014 AsamiFirestoneAuthor's Note
