The Last EvergreenA Story by AsamiFirestone"I'm not afraid to die anymore."- Rose As Corra walked down the dark, gloomy path,
she thought about what would happen in the future.
Beckoning lights emerged from the forest, about a hundred yards ahead. Corra
ran after them, to her they seemed like a beacon of hope. Death was no longer gaining on her. Entering the clearing where the lights were, she was so ready for a
good thing! Before she got to them they flickered out Gone, everything was back, the grief, the hardship, and worst of all the pain. Has a higher power done this just to torment her? Is there something she has done, why have the fates condemned her? Just like it had been on cue, it began to rain. Knives were being driven into her heart and soul. Lost in the world and depressed, she trudged out of the clearing. Many weeks
later Corra still had the feeling that the world wanted her dead. Now she was walking through
the little town of Forks, with nothing on her mind except to fight of her own self. On her mind at the
moment were the nightmares she had been having, about a hooded figure coming after her, it
had a transparent white, rotting sheppard’s staff in its hand. It placing its
staff in Corra’s back
and her feeling of terror and helplessness was the worst part of the dream, it
was taking her life
and soul. Quiet, sleepless nights, silence other than the patter of the
nocturnal animals
enveloped Corra for the past three nights, she couldn’t handle the nightmares,
she now saw the hooded
figure everywhere. Rest depravation got the better of her one night. Sleep took ahold of her
and so did the nightmare, that night of realization hit. The Grim Reaper was
the hooded figure!
Used to the pain of death, Corra frustrated the Grim Reaper, he had condemned her.
Very regretful Corra, knowing this was the night of her demise, began to
repent, now Corra was going to die. Waiting for death was an odd feeling, Corra tried to remember all the happy times she had with her family, such as the times when her mother and father would return from work, every now and then with a small gift for herself and Caroline, her older sister. This caused her to want to fight for her life against Death. Exempting those thoughts from her head, she remembered that death might lead her to a reunion with her family and all the pain may go away. She heaved a heavy sigh and prepared herself. Corra didn't know how much time had past. Hours, minutes? It didn't matter she told herself, the only thing that matters right now is realization. She began to think. She has been alive for a long time, she has lived generations of lonely, useless days, months, years, centuries and decades. There, that was it. She had done it, Corra was now ready for death. Peace would come at last. All the grief, pain and suffering of loneliness would soon be over. A sharp pain hit Corra and then all was well, because she fell asleep on Earth for the last time and saw her family, and an eternity of happiness.
