The Dreamed-of CityA Poem by Ryan Z. DawsonA lot of my love poems have maritime themes.
Sleep, oh radiant one, and dream
Of gates of silver standing wide I'll pour you a drink from the Lethe stream And bid you walk with me inside I know the city that you seek I may have seen it once or twice The gems laid in its ancient streets A long-abandoned paradise With ramparts made of polished marble Parapets of solid gold I'll lead you there if I am able Though it's far away I'm told Many years it's lain forsaken Something dark occurred within Those who were not killed were taken Never to be seen again If anyone can put its ghosts To rest, my dear, I know it's you When you reclaim its haunted throne Perhaps you'll let me stay there, too Sleep, my radiant one, and dream We'll find our place among the stars When you are queen and I your king And the whole rich land of Dream is ours. © 2011 Ryan Z.
