The lay of Idríel and the yearning for the seaA Poem by ~Sarah~ Idríel The FairThe lay of Idríel
AND The yearning for the Sea The first stars had appeared on the Western sky at the time when she arrived to the seashore and there she stood, standing still like a tree of old and the sea winds blew her hair dark like a night sky.
“O where is now, the Elvenhome fair and the bright stars of Elbereth? O where is now, the forests of Eldamar and the last shore beyond of all?”
The years changed but time itself passed by Idríel, fair lady of Teleri who was distant relative to Olwë King of the Falmari.
At last her heart, moved with all the grief in the world, became restless and the sorrow weighed her mind. She heard the distant echo of a song of the gulls and she lifted her hands up and cried;
‘Boe I ‘waen! Bow I ‘waen!’ ‘Now I must go!’ she cried.
So she moved like the wind on the waves And far away the golden ship of the heaven was sinking beyond the horizon, the Sun herself, and the silver Moon created a bridge that shone over the dark Sea. A small, slender white boat traveled in a favorable wind and the wind carried a vivid voice far, Idríel was singing;
“O where is now, the Elvenhome fair and the bright stars of Elbereth? O where is now, the forests of Eldamar and the last shore beyond of all?”
The Sun disappeared behind the sky and she whispered to her; ‘Losto vae’, ‘sleep well’, ‘I am going home, I am going finally home’. © 2018 ~Sarah~ Idríel The FairReviews
