Sweet Corn

Sweet Corn

A Poem by Arundass TP
"

The human way

"
Seedlings of sweet corn grass
Sawed a thoußand around
sprouting their head
Looking clouds, rain and sun.

Spreading their roots
Drinking water and quenching thirst
Growing strong and vibrant
Spreading their leaves broader and longer.

Murmurs the song of life
Sometimes hot and sometimes cold
Sweet corn grass danced with wind
Insects and birds dancing around.

Season's passed, Sun is bright
Corn appeared, in between leaves
With bright color covered, wrapped and protected
Starts to ripe, overtime.

Older and older the grass gets
Satisfied, blooming flowers of joy
Steps of horror rushed suddenly
Cutting life from earth for ripening Sweet corn.

It's my little seeds, like your kids
For carrying existence of love
Until the earth exists
That you ate with greed of taste.

A finely inked metaphoric gem in this lovely poem about sweet corn, dear T. P... I love how you see the seeds sown as being like family. Sad how the drought cuts off life from the almost ready to eat sweet corn as if it greedily ate it. I hope the sweet corn bloomed when the rain visited again, and that you and your dear family enjoyed its beautiful taste. A poignant write, dear friend. Well written, dear T. P... Thank you for sharing...

As Marie has said, this is a fine metaphoric gem. I was about three or four when I first saw corn growing, and I was mesmerized by the wonder of its growth.

Thank you friend. Have a nice day ❤️
Corn has been so essential to the development of humanity. There is a sweetness to its flavour but the harvest can be savage. A wonderful work in metaphot.

.. I like the way you have used sweet corn for the title and also the many references to it throughout ..
I see it (corn) as a fertility and life symbol .. muchly enjoyed .. Neville

Beautiful poem of the natural environment with a strong message. Family is everything. You have to nurture your children to see them grow, just like those seeds planted which turned into corn. A lovely read Arundass.

You are welcome.
the life of corn, from sprouts to high stems, nourished by the rain…the drought, and corn dies… but the it is reborn again and the labor is hard… but the sweet kernels are what the family eats and loves…and keeps on eating….like life if nature and it’s full blossom, the death then reborn……
i like the last line…”existence of love” ……

The last stanza has new meaning to this poem. The body of the poem reads most exotically and carries an almost tribal feel. Very nicely done

The last santza intriguing... and thank God we do eat only certain seeds,... some seeds are poison to humans not to animals in a way that it has to grow back....
Where there is corn fields, there we can see peacock 🦚 too..
Your lines is like walking on the corn fields..

But I can compare it to parents-kids- greed insights... parenting is everyone does but still a difficult thing...

I especially like the last stanza of this tasty poem.
I just was in a streak of eating ears of sweet corn almost every day for three weeks. It was running so sweet and crisp.
I like the metaphor here...raising a family....plant the seeds and watch them grow.
