Smile

I gave up a long time ago

I thought I understood

the more I came to know

the more I thought I could

But it was never all that simple

every time I tried and fell

every effort, big and little

for whatever reason didn't do well

It is only fair to give up

a poisonous thought appeared

it wouldn't rest nor would it stop

the more I thought the more I feared

But how can I really?

when there's so much around me

condemned to live freely

allowed, denied, but ultimately free

I see the eyes are tired

I feel the emptyness of a starved child

they escape, dreams of that desired

emotions of a nature rather wild

It is only near the end that I understand

things will never go as planned

And for the first time in a while

I let myself a heart-felt smile

This is a great piece of work, I know this feeling you speak of, the bible
talks about long suffering 300 plus times in the new testament alone,
life is a struggle, and doesn't always go our way, but God's
