My Canvas

My Canvas

A Poem by Charlotte
"

The perks of insanity.

"

Look at me she would whisper

And with a turn of my head I’d look away

I’d hear her sob into my bed

The walls were my canvas for the day

I’d see fields of gold and skies of green

Animals leaping through grass and stream

The fish would jump and sprout their wings

And the birds would submerge underneath everything

The forests would wave towards me

They’d encourage me to run, to flee

With a smile I’d quite happily agree

Only to find I couldn’t move my feet

I tried to call the animals over to my room

With a swish of my wrist they’d surely swoon

But alas my hands stayed by my side

Fastened safely and double tied

Look at me she would whisper

And with a turn of my head I’d look away

She’d add: It’s all going to be all right

But then again, to her, the walls were white
