March

March

Marching...
Never stopping
Step by step
Closer ever closer

I come to the edge
Not blinking
Nor wrenching in fear
Step and again

To the brink
Pushing ever onward
Knowing but still marching
Inch to inch

To the top of the abyss
I head
Never failing
Foot by foot

A forlorn mission
Inconceivable
The terrors I face
Toe to heel

Called to march
Ignoring
The calls from without
One over another

Told to halt
Atop a deep ravine
Sounds echoing about
Here, we are here

Volunteers called
Another step
I am alone
Face to Face

With my mission
Before me
One more
Just one more step

Down, down
To the bottom
I find myself
Alone still alone

The Forlorn Hope
Given up
They turn
Marching ever marching
