Scorned (Part 2 of This World)A Poem by West of EveryoneWritten in 2002
Here I am cold and alone Cast down by the ones I loved Tossed to and fro by the waves of life Belittled and scorned By those who were once friends They now point and laugh The hopelessness of this world Overpowers me and casts me aside Like rotten garbage Their harsh words cut my being deeply I reach up for help to one bright light But she rebukes me, shoving me back And expressing the same words as those before Shivering and alone I flounder in the sea of life Grasping at the rocks Trying desperately to pull myself ashore Each time I get a foothold Another wave plows my head into the rocks Knocking me unconscious And the tide takes me back out to sea If only that one bright light Would have shown me an ounce of compassion I would be safe and warm by her fire Instead I am in this freezing water Trying to stay alive and gasping for air I cannot hold on for long I plead for help But my cries fall on deaf ears © 2010 West of Everyone |
